Project Background
Sahara Nepal has been collaborating with Habitat for Humanity since 2005 in order to provide safe shelter for underprivileged groups, and families that are vulnerable to disaster. Various efforts have been made in the past in this regard for promoting and constructing disaster-resilient, low-cost houses using local & eco-friendly construction materials like mud, bamboo, etc.
The housing programs have been implemented in close coordination with the local government. Likewise, Community Housing Program was implemented in partnership with the local government and Sahara Nepal Saving & Credit Cooperative Society Ltd. In this program, low-cost houses were being constructed in the remote and rural areas of Jhapa district in seven municipalities including rural municipalities. Similarly, the local government has tapped financial resources from provincial and federal Govt. For the reduction of poverty in housing. In this regard, four of the municipalities have expressed their interest to work in partnership with Habitat for Humanity and Sahara Nepal for providing technical and social mobilization support
Objective
To provide social mobilization and technical support to four Urban & Rural Municipalities for the construction of a safe shelter for underprivileged communities.
