Project Background

In partnership with FAIRMED Foundation Nepal, Sahara Nepal is implementing BISWAS project (Building trust and confidence among NTD-affected and vulnerable populations) in the public health component (Neglected Tropical Diseases). The project in different 17 R/Municipalities of Jhapa and Morang districts focuses on the intervention targeting both NTDs and Maternal and Neonatal Health (MNH) including policy engagement and technical support to the related health sectors. Sahara Nepal is seeking qualified, dynamic, and motivated Nepali citizens on the following positions for the successful implementation of the project.

Major Activities

Reactivation and strengthen mothers' groups for health messaging and promotion of service utilization by Supportive supervision to FCHVs

Sensitization of community, locally active groups on their vulnerability to NTDs, stigma reduction, MNH issues including PNC, government disability provision and social health insurance

Display and disseminate messages on NTDs prevention and control in border area of all three districts

Organize two-day training to strengthen HFOMC (their mandate and roles) as per national guideline (TOT 2021, HFOMC 2022)

Organize onsite coaching on NTD and MNH and filling gaps on skills of health workers

Basic infrastructure and essential equipment support to selected health facilities based on need assessment (Lab support for NTDs diagnosis, Birthing centers, health care waste management,)

Leprosy and lymphatic filariasis cases follow up. Support in MDA campaign

Major Achievements

Completed Palika level orientation program at 17 focus Palikas.

Capacity enhance training to staff (GESI and Social Mobilization training)

SATH Tool implementation in 48 places where are 77 male and 1133 females participated.

Conducted sensitization program at 34 LNOB areas regards NTDs and MNH.

Conducted one slot HFOMC TOT training to health workers.

Conducted one slot NTD TOT training to Health workers.

Installed five hoarding board at LNOB area regarding NTD message.

Wall painting in four LNOB areas regarding NTD message.

Completed one event SBA onsite coaching at Kachankawal Jhapa.

Distributed 263 pieces treated bed net to LNOB 123 families.

Supported and distributed equipment to 19 Birthing centers.

Coordination/Collaboration

Program activities linkage with housing project. Coordination with Local Government and District Health Office during implementation Program activities. Coordination with the Stakeholders in the respective Areas During the program implementation

Major Lessons Learned

Program activities are very effective if it would be integrated approach.

Most of the activities were conducted at the LNOB area.

It would be very effective if every activity conduct with the involvement of Health Facilities staff and local authorities in the field.
