Project Background

ACF and Sahara Nepal in partnership initiated the project in two rural municipalities one at Kispang Rural Municipality, Nuwakot and Aamachhodingmo Rural Municipality Rasuwa with the
aim to connect water supply networks allied on the right bank of upper Trishuli River Basin.

This project aims to renovate and improve six-water supply schemes along with household tap connections, installation of mini Grey Water treatment plant, and hygiene promotion. The project has planned to reach out to provide water supply connections to 1,051 households in the above-mentioned municipalities with cash contribution of Rural Municipalities.

The major objective of the Project is to provide access and address the need of safe drinkable water through water supply infrastructures; household connection, water station construction
and WSUC (Water and Sanitation Users’ Committee) ownership. Besides, the project had also aimed to ensure WASH through grey water management and community awareness.

Major Activities

Construction / renovation of 6 improved networks with home connections and overflow for irrigation

Legally register and Construct 6 water supply schemes (Kispang - Archale, Manegaun and Puranogaun and in Aamacchodingmo - Gatlang, Brajam, Pajung) with proper reservoir and transmission/distribution.

Construction of 6 ecological treatment plants (planted reeds with horizontal flow under the surface) with flushing and upstream grids

Household connection campaign - one house one tap construction

Reach to 1051 HH with one house and one tap provision

Community promotion sessions focusing on handwashing with soap, proper water use, irrigation and open defecation prevention

Community promotion sessions focusing on river protection, water quality, environmental river management, grey water use for irrigation

Setting up the users' committee and training

Capacity building programs for water supply user committee and selected VMWs

Technical training for the plant operation (for the users' committee)

Collection of seed money for further maintenance and operation of water supply scheme

Construction of 6 ecological treatment plants (planted reeds with horizontal flow under the surface) with flushing and upstream grids

Major Achievements

A Detailed engineering survey has been completed and BOQ for construction has been finalized and following to which the tender process for construction of water supply scheme

KAP survey has been completed and through which promotional activities have been designed for implementation.

Water supply registration has been on the process of completing and collection of seed money is ongoing

Preconstruction training for all the WSUC and VMWS of project selected scheme and area has been completed and the manual has been provided to them.

Major Lessons Learned

Detailed engineering survey and baseline survey need to be done prior project planning and budget allocation.

Rural Municipality involvement funding commitment for project implementation and solve conflict at Scheme areas.

Motivation and capacity building of users committee through social mobilization and frequently coordination.

Frequently communicate with Project advisor and other project team to accomplish target verses achievement.
